Almost 1000 kg of waste collected at the Marina

Monday 8th April 2019

990 kilos collected at the Magaluf Critical Biological Area 2019 cleanup day

A clean-up day took place on Friday 5th April at the Critical Biological Area (ABC) of Magaluf, in the Marina wetlands area, organised by the Calvià Town Hall's Natural and Urban Environment Service, with the collaboration of Cruz Roja and the Regional Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Fisheries.

A total of 990 kilos of waste were collected: 360 kg of waste material, 110 kg of containers, 160 kg of glass and 360 kg of bulky waste.

The objective of this initiative is to clean this area of special biological interest and raise public awareness on issues of environmental protection, and more specifically, on waste problems. Calvià 2000 collaborated in the cleaning with the waste transport.

This cleaning is part of the European campaign "Let 's Clean Up Europe 2019", a common action across Europe to raise awareness about the amount of waste that we throw away uncontrolled in our environment and promote collection.

The meeting was attended by regional minister for Environment, Agriculture and Fisheries, Vicenç Vidal; the councillor for Environment of the Town Hall, Francisca Muñoz, and the councillor of the Magaluf area, Alfonso Molina, as well as the manager of Calvià 2000, Sonia Moragues, and the autonomous president of Creu Roja Illes Balears, Antoni Barceló.
