THE SENIOR CITIZENS HOME OF CALVIÀ ADAPTS ITS FACILITIES TO CARRY OUT OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES ALL YEAR ROUND
It is planned that a canine therapy project will be launched soon
The Senior Citizens' Home of Calvià is carrying out a series of improvements in the centre to undertake the workshops that they carry out, and others that are going to be implemented in the open air. These are workshops for cognitive stimulation and leisure, such as gardening, and a dog therapy project the will be launched soon.
To this end, artificial turf has been installed in the outer space surrounding the Senior Citizens' Home and soon the metal roof of the terrace will be covered so that users can use it during all seasons of the year and thus continue doing the centres' outdoor activities. This terrace is adjacent to the centre's activities room, so the indoor room and the terrace will jointly constitute a large space for workshops and activities.
In addition to the centre's exterior adaptation, and within the facilities' continuous improvement, the old wooden shutters, which had been deteriorating over the years, have been replaced by more resistant aluminum shutters. The damaged flower boxes have also been replaced by new fiberglass ones.
On the other hand, since this week, the Llar of Calvià has 6 special beds for patients with cognitive impairment or dementia. These are geriatric, low and full mobility beds. The fact that the bed surface can descend to a height of 27 cm in relation to the floor, allows a greater comfort to the user and contributes to the prevention of work accidents due to the centre's workers overexertion.
The Llar of Calvià has a total of 60 places, of which 2 are respite places for temporary stays. Of these 58 places, 25 are agreed with the General Directorate of Care for Dependent Adults and 33 are municipal places.
