BOTH, THE MAYOR OF CALVIÀ AND THE REGIONAL MINISTER FOR ECONOMIC MODEL, TOURISM AND LABOUR AGREE A ROADMAP TO FIGHT AGAINST EXCESS TOURISM
Both institutions commit to work together to request more State security reinforcements and to look for formulas that promote investment for the reconversion of mature areas
The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, and the Regional Minister for Economic Model, Tourism and Labour, Iago Negueruela, met this morning in a first contact of this legislature, to address different aspects related to the municipality with more tourist places of the Balearic Islands. The municipal general directors of Tourism, Xavier Pascuet, and Municipal Coordination, José Antonio Fernández Ballesta, and the regional government's regional director for Economic Model, Llorenç Pou, have also participated in the meeting.
In this first meeting they have in this legislature, Alfonso Rodríguez has informed the Regional Minister of the aspects that most concern the municipality in order to continue progressing in the collaboration that has been maintained in recent years between both administrations.
In this sense, the mayor and the regional minister have agreed on the need to intensify actions to curb the so-called ''tourism of excesses'' and work on a regulation that sets a control framework.
That is why they have agreed to set guidelines and a series of meetings that will take place from September, to address the 'Bellver Acords' mandate on what regulatory measures must be taken to combat this ''tourism of excesses''.
Likewise, and as explained by the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez, today two other commitments have been reached to continue moving towards a quality and sustainable destination. On the one hand, both administrations will work to improve security measures in the Magaluf area, and in particular they have pointed out the possibility of “reaching Madrid” to request that the Civil Guard establish the necessary reinforcements to guarantee “nightlife offer, but controlled”.
On the other hand, Regional Government and Town Hall have agreed to claim the commitment of the Spanish Government to invest in mature tourist areas to accompany the investments that are being developed from hotel companies in order to reconvert these areas.
On his behalf, regional minister Negueruela recalled that from the Labour Inspectorate, actions are being developed to improve the quality of employment and tackle irregular work situations, and he has announced specific actions in Magaluf, with an indeterminate date.
