CALVIÀ REAFFIRMS ITS COMMITMENT FOR THE BRITISH TOURIST MARKET AT THE WTM IN LONDON

The municipality increases this autumn the allocation for tourism promotion to strengthen traditional markets with segmented online promotion

Calvià once again attends the World Travel Market to intensify the actions to attract new British tourists, the main issuing market of the municipality. In this sense, the allocation for the tourist promotion of the municipality for this autumn-winter has been increased to mitigate the possible effects of external eventualities such as Brexit, the devaluation of the pound or a possible recession of the German economy. In the same way, it plans an increase for the 2020 budget.

Calvià Town Hall has increased by 29% the allocation, with 30,000 euros more, which will be aimed at, on the one hand, strengthening traditional markets such as the United Kingdom and Germany, attracting new customer segments of high purchasing capacity, and, on the other hand, boosting promotion in new market spaces such as the Nordic, the Benelux countries or Russia. The intention is to attract tourism specialised in sports, hiking, health tourism, senior tourism, etc.

To do this, the Calvià Town Hall plans to agree with the hotel associations of the municipality the product to promote in each area and carry out the promotional activity through digital comarketing and promotion. Digital campaigns are aimed at a very segmented audience and allow them to assess their impact.

The mayor of Calvià Alfonso Rodríguez Badal has attended the London International Tourism Fair, World Travel Market, where the municipality is attending, once again, as a safe, quality destination and in constant renewal process. Rodríguez Badal stressed the need to promote sports tourism, active tourism (health, hiking, etc.), life style tourism, or MICE tourism, amongst others.

Great sporting events allow Calvià to be placed as an ideal destination for practicing sports throughout the year, with initiatives such as the Challenge Peguera-Mallorca triathlon (17th October 2020), the tennis ATP Mallorca Championship (20th to 27th June 2020), the Half Marathon Magaluf (18th April 2020), the Galatzó trail (15th March 2020) or the Mallorca Walking Event (2nd April 2020) amongst others, as well as the training camps that the sports facilities of the municipality host or events such as Beach Volley Around the World and the Beach Rugby.
