Calvią, venue of the XXIV Islands Games 2020

PRESENTATION MEETING TO THE BALEARIC FEDERATIONS OF THE XXIV ISLANDS GAMES THAT WILL TAKE PLACE IN CALVIÀ IN 2020

The event will bring together more than 1000 athletes from different islands of the world in Calvià and an economic impact close to one million euros is expected in the area


The presentation meeting to the Balearic Federations of the XXIV ISLANDS GAMES to be held in Calvià from 19th to 24th May 2020, which was attended by the deputy mayor for Sports, Eva Serra, took place on Friday 29th November at 6 p.m.

The Islands Games are a multisport competition aimed at girls and boys aged between 12 and 16 years residing in different islands around the world.

The event will have competitions in 15 sports disciplines, specifically the following:

athletics, basketball, handball, fencing, football, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, karate, swimming, rugby, tennis, table tennis, triathlon, sailing and volleyball.

The COJI (organising committee of the Islands Games) estimates that more than a thousand athletes will meet in Calvià to participate in the event. It is expected the presence of representatives of Azores, the Canary Islands, Corsica, Corfu, Crete, Jersey, Madeira, Martinique, Reunion, Sicily, Cyprus, etc.

Calvià will host the event and six of its main municipal sports facilities will host the competitions:

Magaluf Athletics Track
Galatzó Pavilion
Magaluf Sports Centre
Son Caliu Rugby Field
IES Son Ferrer Pavilion
Calvià 'Melani Costa' Sports Centre

Calvià is committed to this sporting event as part of its commitment to fight against the tourist seasonal standstill of the municipality through projects that serve to attract visitors interested in sports, culture, gastronomy, etc. It is estimated that the event will generate an economic impact in the area close to one million euros.

The Islands Games count on the collaboration of the Government of the Balearic Islands, the Consell de Mallorca, the Calvià Town Hall and the Palmanova-Magaluf Hotel Association.
