Thursday 11th June 2020

Smart Tourist Destinations Plenary Commission

This morning, a meeting of the Smart Tourist Destinations (DTI) Network Plenary Commission has taken place, of which the Mayor of Calvià is a member as Executive Commission spokesperson, and which today was chaired by King Felipe VI, with the attendance of the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Reyes Maroto.

The mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, who also chairs the Tourism Commission of the FEMP, in his speech has valued the role of the management in situ that the municipalities do in the development of the tourism industry, providing security, cleaning, maintenance, etc., in all destinations.

He pointed out that "now, at a critical moment like the one we are experiencing, the tourism industry, which has given us a past, gives us a present and will give us a future, must be able to return to the environment what the environment offers it, in a double field: generating social cohesion, employment and redistribution of wealth, and with the care and protection of the territory, as a distinguishing mark of the destination, and in which innovation will be a key lever ».

In this sense, he has highlighted the importance of the DTI Network that is allowing the necessary tools to be given, from the cooperation of all the municipalities and entities that comprise it, sharing experiences, to advance in the management of this industry towards a greater social cohesion and care for the enviroment.
