VISIT TO THE BEGINNING OF THE GALATZÓ ESTATE REFUGE WORKS
All the public administrations involved in the project highlight the value of this place and the importance of the project that will be part of the Refuges Network of the Consell de Mallorca
A visit was made this morning to the works that are already beginning on what will be the new refuge for the Galatzó municipal public estate. The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Catalina Cladera; the vice president of the Consell, Aurora Ribot; the general director of Tourism, Rosana Morillo; the deputy mayor for the Environment and Ecological Transition, Rafel Sedano, and the councilwoman for the area Marga Plomer, have been able to visit a part of the old pigsties' building where the refuge will be built that will be part of the Refuges Network of the Consell de Mallorca.
The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has welcomed the start of the works of a project that "will have a positive impact on the public estate in the context of promoting nature tourism as one of the strategic actions of the municipality." The deputy mayor for the Environment and Ecological Transition, Rafel Sedano, stressed that “integrating the municipal estate of Galatzó into the network of shelters on the Pedra en Sec Route will promote knowledge on the natural and ethnological wealth of the estate».
''This new refuge on the Serra is an example of understanding and institutional collaboration," said the president of the Consell, Catalina Cladera. "We are committed to offering alternatives for leisure, sports and sustainable tourism in the Serra de Tramuntana, while we spread and protect heritage, natural and ethnological values, through the network of refuges of the Consell", she said.
On her behalf, the vice president and regional minister for Sustainability and the Environment, Aurora Ribot, pointed out that “The network of refuges and the Pedra en Sec Route are a tool and an opportunity to bring the Serra closer to the citizens of Mallorca, enhancing the nature and the anthropic character of this landscape ».
The refuge's project, drafted and promoted by Calvià Town Hall, has a budget of 1.410.000 euros, coming from the sustainable tourism tax. The Consell de Mallorca, which is in charge of its construction and subsequent management, has awarded it to the company Obras y Promociones Comas SA. It will have 52 places distributed in 12 bedrooms, kitchen, dining room and a multifunctional space that will host events related to the environment, amongst other initiatives.
The general director of Tourism, Rosana Morillo, has defended the need to claim the sustainable tourism tax (ITS), a "basic tool that the Balearic Islands have thanks to the tourists who visit them, since it allows them to achieve a sustainable destination", she praised the refuge project for hikers presented today at the old pigsties and has put it as an example of utility in the Balearic Islands.
The Galatzó estate, acquired by the Calvià Town Hall in 2006, has a great cultural, historical and natural value. The Pedra en Sec Route passes through the estate in the variant that starts from Es Capdellà, specifically from the Galatzó stage to sa Coma d'en Vidal refuge.
