Aids for inclusive playgrounds in schools

Friday 24th September 2021

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL SUBSIDISES THE MUNICIPAL SCHOOL CENTRES TO ADAPT THEM TO CURRENT NEEDS AND FOR THE CREATION OF INCLUSIVE SCHOOL PLAYGROUNDS

This year the aid will go to the first 4 centres, with a total of 85.000 euros

Calvià Town Hall, through the Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries (IMEB), launches an aid project for the creation of inclusive patios in pre-education and primary education centres, which will be carried out in different phases, with the objective of promoting the implementation of interventions in school playgrounds in order to adapt them to new needs and promote the pedagogical and egalitarian use of the different school playground spaces.

This project began as a result of two initiatives. On the one hand, due to the proposal made at the II Calvià Children's Council, which called for "that all school yards be improved and modernised." On the other hand, the Parlament de les Illes Balears approved a non-law proposal, relative to inclusive patios, in which town halls were urged to include materials and elements adapted to all students that allow the possibility of carrying out leisure activities aimed at promoting equality, preventing racism, homophobia or discrimination for ability reasons.

It is planned that the projects (which can already be presented to obtain the subsidy) will be carried out over three years so that all pre-education and primary centres of the municipality receive the aid. For this year, the Town Hall will allocate 85.000 euros to the CEIP (pre-education and primary centres) of Son Ferrer, Puig de sa Morisca (Santa Ponça), Son Caliu and Xaloc (Peguera), which will have an item of 21.250 euros each one.

Some of the actions in which the centres have been interested in carrying out are, for instance, the acquisition of giant games, climbing walls, more green areas, painted games on the floor, murals or outdoor furniture, amongst others.
