Wednesday 13th October 2021

CALVIÀ TOWN HALL RENEWS THE AGREEMENT WITH THE PEGUERA AND CALA FORNELLS HOTEL ASSOCIATION TO CARRY OUT THE TOURIST ACTIVITY PROGRAMME, 'CALVIÀ, THE EUROPEAN WINTER' DURING THE MID AND LOW SEASON IN CALVIÀ

To resume, promote and give continuity to this de-seasonalisation tool, it has been decided to increase the programme's financial endowment regarding last edition and bring it forward to the month of October

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, accompanied by the area councillor Olga Granados, has signed the renewal of the collaboration agreement with the president of the Peguera and Cala Fornells Hotel Association, Antonio Mayol, for the management of the programme, 'Calvià, the European Winter' during this upcoming mid and low season.

The main objective of the programme is to de-seasonalise the tourist activity and boost the economic activity in the months with less tourist influx, thus contributing to an employment improvement in Calvià. With the signing of this agreement, it is intended to revitalise the area of Peguera and Cala Fornells through excursions and different free activities for people visiting the town.

'Calvià, the European Winter' began in 1992 and has been developing uninterruptedly since then, with the exception of last winter due to the pandemic. Due to the current situation, and with the intention of resuming, promoting and giving continuity to this de-seasonalisation tool, it has been decided to increase the programme's financial endowment regarding last edition (2019-2020) by 28,29% and bring it forward to the month of October. It will take place for seven months, so the programme will be in effect until 30th April 2022.

The programme includes varied activities such as excursions, guided tours, workshops, concerts, visits to events, and other special activities. The Town Hall intends to promote the tourist activity at the same time that the natural, historical and cultural heritage of the municipality is valued. On the other hand, and for a better dissemination of activities, tour operators and travel agencies operating in the municipality are informed on the programme and organised events.

Challenge Peguera-Mallorca 2021

On the other hand, Peguera will host this coming weekend the seventh edition of the Challenge Peguera-Mallorca triathlon, an important international sports event that has established itself as an outstanding tool to promote sports tourism and diversify and extend the season.
