CONSELL DE MALLORCA BEGINS THE CONSTRUCTION WORKS OF THE V MOT TEST STATION IN A SON BUGADELLES MUNICIPAL PLOT
It will increase the inspection capacity of the island MOT test stations network by 2023 and Mallorca will have a more modern, functional and environmentally friendly MOT test station
The Department of Mobility and Infrastructure of the Consell de Mallorca begins today the construction works of the V MOT test station in the municipal plot that Calvià Town Hall has ceded to the island institution, in the Son Bugadelles industrial estate.
The new MOT test station will have four inspection lines and it is expected to come into operation throughout 2023 to continue improving the MOT test station service for citizens, decentralising the service by placing it in an area where there was no station. The visit to the start of the works was attended by the president of the Consell de Mallorca, Catalina Cladera; the mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal; the island councillor for Mobility and Infrastructure, Iván Sevillano; the deputy mayor for Urban Planning and Activities, Marc López, and the deputy mayor for Participation, Marga Plomer.
The president of the Consell de Mallorca, Catalina Cladera has explained that “It is a project that we have been working on for a long time. I want to thank the predisposition of the mayor of Calvià and his team and in all the inter-institutional collaboration. Today is an important day because we will improve and expand the MOT test station service throughout Mallorca»
The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has celebrated the start of the adaptation works on the municipal plot that has been transferred to the Consell de Mallorca for the installation of the fifth MOT test station in Mallorca, highlighting that "this action has been possible thanks to the collaboration between both administrations, which will allow a service as important as the technical inspection of vehicles to be brought closer to the citizens of Calvià, who have already seen the benefits and advantages with the temporary installation of the mobile MOT test station in Magaluf». The land was acquired by Calvià Town Hall, so it is part of the municipal heritage. The plot of land has been ceded for 35 years to the Consell de Mallorca, which will pay an annual fee to the Town Hall.
Vice president Yllanes, for his part, wanted to emphasise the environmental and sustainability issues that the station incorporates. “From the public administrations we must be exemplary with the rest of the citizens and economic fabric of the islands, we must be leaders in the actions that we want to promote in the sectors. For this reason, I am pleased that this premises incorporates the highest energy efficiency criteria to optimise consumption, since it will have self-consumption of photovoltaic energy with a power of 37.8 kW and renewable thermal systems for air conditioning through aerothermal energy. Therefore, an example such as the deployment of infrastructures can be done with the minimum possible impact on energy consumption, thus contributing both to economic savings and to the reduction of polluting emissions»
With the V station launching, the inspection capacity of the island MOT tests stations network will be increased by 2023, in addition to having a more modern, functional and environmentally friendly MOT test station. “This new station will mean the definitive improvement for the MOT test station service on the island”, explained regional minister Iván Sevillano.
The contract for the drafting of the project, execution of the work and provision of supplies for the fifth MOT test station in Mallorca, whose construction begins today, has been processed by the department of Mobility and Infrastructure of the Consell Insular de Mallorca and awarded after the corresponding bidding procedure.
The future vehicle technical inspection station will involve a modernised facility and will have four inspection lines (two for light vehicles and two universal for both heavy and light vehicles), in addition to an inspection cabin for two-wheeled vehicles.
The station will consist of a two-storey building, in order to maximise the dimensions of the plot, ceded by agreement by Calvià Town Hall. On the upper floor will be the administrative section offices, amongst other dependencies. The lighting, both in the warehouse and in the rest of the building, will be of low consumption and will have photovoltaic panels, thus meeting the energy saving and the environment goals.
The building's built area will be 1.542 m² of the total plot of 5.600 m², distributed in:
• The warehouse and office area, which will occupy an area of 1.060 m2 and will have a built area, together with the first floor, of 1.258 m2.
• The ground floor will house all the dependencies to carry out the activity, such as the inspection areas and the area for issuing certificates. It also has a private area that houses the changing rooms, the workshop and the IT technical space.
• The rest of the plot will be used as car parks, waiting areas for vehicles that will undergo inspection, green areas, flower beds and landscaped spaces.
"With this action, we will continue to improve the MOT test station service with a new, modern and definitive premises, all without increasing rates, and we will also be able to offer a better and decentralised service to citizens, by locating it in an area of the island that it lacked a nearby station; we want the MOT test station service to be closer to the citizens so they do not have to go far to the service, thus saving travel time, removing cars from roads, thus reducing traffic jams, and ultimately, offering a much more close and accessible service”, added the regional minister Sevillano.
In addition, different novelties are incorporated regarding the rest of the stations on the island related to greater environmental sustainability of the infrastructure through different actions such as self-consumption of photovoltaic energy, energy efficiency in terms of air conditioning and production of domestic hot water by aerothermal heat pump.
In addition, around 42 new jobs will also be created in which selection clauses will be incorporated to promote job placement for people and groups with greater difficulties such as people with a disability of over 33%, victims of gender violence, people at social exclusion risk, long-term unemployed, young people up to 30 years old and over 50, in addition to establishing gender equality parameters.
The global cost of the project drafting, the construction of the fifth station and the provision of the supply and necessary machinery will be close to 2 million euros.
