Youths from Finland in Calvią - Erasmus+ Programme

Monday 5th September 2022

TOMORROW A GROUP OF YOUNG PEOPLE FROM FINLAND WILL START THE ERASMUS+ EXCHANGE PROGRAMME IN CALVIÀ, WHICH WILL BE THE HOST MUNICIPALITY

The group of 17 young people will carry out various activities, many of them included in the rei En Jaume festivities

On Tuesday, a group of 17 young people from Finland will arrive in Calvià to take part in the Erasmus+ Programme that returns to the municipality, this time, with a direct participation in the rei En Jaume festivities, which are celebrated these days in Santa Ponça. Thus, these 17 young people, aged between 16 and 19, will share a 'colla' (group) and camp with the members of the Colla Jove Muhammad Ali, with the support of the Town Hall's youth service.

Since 2014, Calvià Town Hall's youth 'dynamisation' service participates in the Erasmus+ programme, organising youth exchanges. According to the deputy mayor for Participation and Youth, Marga Plomer, the programme brings together groups of young people from different countries with similar concerns or typologies, and provides the opportunity to organise a recreational-training meeting, in periods of 5 to 10 days, in which spaces for coexistence and learning amongst equals are generated. This will be the second youth exchange this year, since the first one took place last April in Bergolo with young people from Italy, Greece and Calvià.

Throughout the summer the young Finns have known the culture of Calvià, through the history of the Landing of Jaime I and the Conquest of Mallorca. This week, together with the group of young Calvians who will host them, they will live the adventure of performing the parades and battles between Moors and Christians. Between the 'batucada' (drums performance) sessions, the decoration of the camp, gastronomic workshops, excursions and fun days, they will participate in the rei En Jaume festivities.

The group of 17 young people will be on the island until Tuesday next week. The Monday before they will be given the youthpass and there will be farewell activities and the final evaluation.
