Nurseries gratuity to be extended for aged 2-3

Thursday 15th September 2022

CALVIÀ WILL EXTEND TO THE ENTIRE DAY THE GRATUITY OF THE 2-3 YEARS NURSERIES SCHOOL STAGE IMPLEMENTED BY THE GOVERN

Calvià has 10 municipal public pre-education schools and, currently, with 231 children who will be able to benefit from these measures

Calvià Town Hall, through the Municipal Institute of Education and Libraries (IMEB), will implement in this 2022-2023 school year the total free admission of municipal school nurseries, in the 2-3 year school stage, complementing the initiative of the Government of the Balearic Islands. Thus, this term will be totally free of charge for the 231 boys and girls between 2 and 3 years old, enrolled in the 10 public municipal school nurseries in Calvià, since they will have the 4 teaching hours subsidised by the Govern, and the rest (morning school, dining room, toy library) will be subsidised one hundred percent by the Town Hall.

In Calvià, all the students in school nurseries registered in the municipality receive a subsidy of between 30 and 70%, depending on family income, for all age groups and that covers all time periods. Now, the initiative of the Govern will allow, in the 2-3 year period, one hundred percent free of charge this school year since municipal subsidies can be used during non-school hours. Children between 1 and 2 years old of age will continue to receive aid from the municipality.

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, accompanied by the deputy mayor for Education and Employment, Olga Granados, and the manager of the IMEB, Borja Martorell, have brought together the families of the children who will receive total free admission during this school year, to explain them the Town Hall's decision to complement the Govern subsidies and respond to any doubts and questions that may arise. Rodríguez Badal has described the Autonomous Executive's initiative as excellent news, since it is a good measure to move towards both, the universalisation of all educational stages and conciliation.

Calvià applies the municipal subsidies to the price calculated 15 years ago, assuming the increases that have been produced year after year, to avoid passing on the cost to families. Throughout the year, the modification of the Ordinance regulating the public price for the provision of services in the municipal nursery schools will be proposed to adapt it to the current situation.
