Calvią at the tourist fair FITUR 2023

CALVIÀ ANNOUNCES A NEW SPORTS EVENT FOR EASTER WEEK IN COLLABORATION WITH THE FUNDACIÓN VICENTE DEL BOSQUE

The announcement has been made within the framework of the FITUR Tourism Fair and will mean a minimum of 1,500 overnight stays at the start of the tourist season

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, held a meeting with Vicente del Bosque, who chairs the foundation that bears his name and which promotes sport as a tool for social transformation, through educational programmes for young people with intellectual disabilities and families in risk of exclusion, and which organizes sporting events along the same lines.

In June, for 4 days, the MIFC Tournament is held in Calvià, organized by the Fundación Vicente del Bosque and in which the Calvià Town Hall collaborates, involving more than a thousand overnight stays, of which 53% are international, and today they have announced a new activity that will take place in the municipality at the beginning of the tourist season, as an event that will contribute to deseasonalization. This is a new Women's Tournament, which will take place during Easter Week 2023, from 5th to 9th April, and will involve a minimum of 1,500 overnight stays over 5 days. The event will include football, 5-a-side indoor football and football for the integration of people with intellectual disabilities, and will take place at the Magaluf football field, and also at the Son Caliu rugby and football field and in the Son Ferrer and Galatzó sports halls.

The mayor has pointed out the importance of carrying out sporting events such as this one that involve integration and sporting values, and which also entail quality products for the Calvià destination. On his behalf, Vicente del Bosque has focussed on the participation of young people with intellectual disabilities, and what it means for them in their training.

WORKS MEETINGS AT FITUR
Calvià is present, one more year at Fitur, where various work meetings are taking place. The national market in Calvià is recovering space, thus favoring diversification, while the high dependence on important international markets, such as the British and German, is being reduced. In 2022, Spanish tourism increased by 36.26% compared to 2019, becoming 10% of the total number of tourists who visited the municipality.

Tomorrow, Thursday, 19th January, at noon, there will be a meeting with the director and sponsors of the Mallorca Live Festival, which takes place in Magaluf, and, later, with the managers of E|motion Group, organizers of the ATP Tennis Tournament, which is celebrated in Santa Ponça.

The Calvià delegation will also hold work meetings, in which aspects such as European funds, innovation and technology, and tourism products will be discussed.

At the same time, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, will chair this afternoon the meeting of the Tourism Commission of the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP), and yesterday attended the meeting of the Board of Directors of the Alliance of Tourist Municipalities (AMT).

On Thursday morning, as president of the FEMP Tourism Commission, he will deliver, together with the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosana Morillo, the SICTED Awards (Comprehensive System of Spanish Tourist Quality in Destinations).

On Thursday night, the General Director of Tourism, Xavier Pascuet, will collect the 15 ICTE Tourism Quality Q flags, at the delivery ceremony that will take place at the Palacio de la Cibeles (Madrid Town Hall). Previously, at the fairgrounds, he will participate in the delivery of the AMT Smart Destinations Awards, within the framework of the FiturTechy forum.

Second day of Calvià at the Tourist Fair

On the second day of work of the Calvià delegation at Fitur, headed by the mayor Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, they various work meetings have taken place in Calvià's strategic line of offering seasonally adjusted products, with the aim of extending the tourist season.

The mayor, together with the general director of Tourism and Coast of Calvià, has met with the CEO of Mallorca Live Festival, Álvaro Martínez, with whom a family photo together with the sponsors of the MLF was taken that has established itself as one one of the most important international festivals on the music concert scene, and which this year will be held on 18th, 19th and 20th May.

The mayor and the general manager have also met with the CEO of E|motion, Edwin Weindorfer, and its general manager, Pilar Carbonell, organizers of the Mallorca Championship, which in 2023 will take place from 25th June to 1st July, and which every year it brings together outstanding tennis players from the international ranking.

Earlier in the morning, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, as president of the FEMP Tourism Commission, handed out the XIII SINTEC Awards, together with the Secretary of State for Tourism, Rosana Morillo.
