CALVIÀ TOWN HALL RECOGNIZES, ON THE WORLD DAY OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION, THE WORK CARRIED OUT BY SIX ENTITIES IN THE DELIVERY OF THE II CALVIÀ AWARDS FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

The Protemar Aventure Association and the Esment entity have obtained the first and second prize, respectively

This Thursday the ceremony for the II Calvià Environment Awards 2022 took place, as part of the World Day for Environmental Education. The awards were presented by the Regional Minister for the Environment and Territory, Miquel Mir; the Councillor for the Environment and Ecological Transition, Rafel Sedano, and the member of the jury Xavier Pastor. The act was also attended by the Deputy Mayor for the Environment and Ecological Transition, Marga Plomer, and the councillor for the Son Caliu area, Juan Recasens.

In his speech, Rafel Sedano explained that "the objective of the awards, which the Town Hall convenes for the second time, through the Department for the Environment, is to publicly recognise the work, efforts and commitment of the Calvià society that, through non-profit entities, develops initiatives, projects and actions for the care of the environment, environmental education and the promotion of biodiversity and sustainability, which contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) in the municipality". Sedano congratulated all the entities, both the winners and those that submitted a candidacy, encouraging them to continue with their work.

The Regional Minister for the Environment and Territory, Miquel Mir, valued "this initiative of the Calvià Town Hall creating this recognition platform for those who work on environmental conservation". Mir recalled that the awards ceremony coincided with World Environmental Education Day "which has historically been largely forgotten in environmental management policies." In this sense, the minister said that the only way to protect and conserve is through knowledge and, after, thourgh desire, and that is why it is vital to train citizens with a good environmental education", he added.
