CALVIÀ IS COMMITTED TO SUSTAINABLE AND SAFE MOBILITY DURING EUROPEAN MOBILITY WEEK 2024
Calvià Town Hall is once again actively participating in European Mobility Week (EMW), for which it has organised a wide programme of activities thanks to the collaboration of local entities and associations. The main objective of these actions is to promote sustainable mobility and improve safety within the municipality.
Within the framework of European Mobility Week 2024, Calvià is once again committed to promoting sustainability and respect for the environment, with the aim of raising awareness on the benefits associated with the use of cleaner and healthier means of transport, such as public transport, bicycles or walking. These activities highlight both the positive impacts they have on public health and the environment, as well as the fact that they promote an active lifestyle and reduce the use of private vehicles.
Mobility Day, scheduled for Saturday 21st September 2024 at the Palmanova Municipal Tax Office, offers a series of initiatives designed to involve different age groups and interests, all with the aim of promoting sustainable mobility.
At 9 a.m., a popular walk will be held along the Calvià Promenade to Bendinat, organised by the Club Marxaires de Calvià and Calvià Town Hall. This walk allows participants to enjoy the scenery while becoming aware of the advantages of walking instead of using the car.
At 9:30 a.m., a popular bike ride will take place along Paseo de Calvià to El Toro, organised by the Club Ciclista Calvià and the Town Hall. The aim of this activity is to encourage the use of bicycles as an ecological and healthy means of transport.
At 10 a.m., young people can sign up for an excursion to the summit where Na Burguesa antennas are located, organised by the Youth Service of Calvià Town Hall. This activity promotes connection with nature and active mobility amongst young people.
At the same time, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., children's activities will be held, such as the Consell de Mallorca Road Safety Park, which allows children to learn basic traffic rules in a fun way, as well as recycled games, a Biblio Roulotte, storytelling sessions (at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.), a pedal go-kart circuit, as well as cloth bag printing workshops, to promote values of sustainability and respect for the environment.
The programme of activities already began on Friday 13th with a night outing to the Atalaya de Cap Andritxol, organised by the Club Yaís and Calvià Town Hall. This evening walk promoted physical activity as a healthy alternative to motorised trips.
Shared Public Space
The theme selected by the European Commission for this year's campaign is "Espacio Público Compartido" (Shared Public Space), which highlights the societal benefits of creating safer, calmer and healthier environments for pedestrians and cyclists.
The European Mobility Week 2024 is an opportunity to reflect and act on how we can use public spaces more equitably, transform our mobility habits to achieve a more sustainable future, with less pollution, and thus improve the life quality in Calvià.
