ES CAPDELLÀ LAUNCHES A NEW REST AREA ON THE GALATZÓ PUBLIC ESTATE'S OLD TRAIL
The Pedra en Sec GR-221 route also improves its infrastructure with the reconstruction of the stone walls
Calvià Town Hall is carrying out improvement actions in the B variant section of the Pedra en Sec GR-221 route, on the Galatzó public estate. The itinerary begins in Es Capdellà, following Galatzó street until reaching the public estate's entry fence, known as Camí Vell de Galatzó. Within the estate, a rest area has been set up and several dry walls are being rebuilt.
Walkers heading to the Galatzó public estate along the Camí Vell, about 2.4 km from Es Capdellà, have a new rest area of about 500 m² next to the walking path. The area has been equipped with two picnic tables and a bench, with an approximate investment of 1.500€. With this new rest area, the Galatzó estate has a total of ten rest areas along the different itineraries: Berenador Ses Cases, Bosc de Sa Madona, Ranxo Carboners Ses Sínies, Font de Sa Comenta, Es Tramuntanal, S 'Argolla, Ranxo Carboners Sa Vinya, Horts des Tarongers, Ses Planes and the Camí Vell area. The Forestry Occupational Training staff of the Calvià Training and Occupation Institute have collaborated in this recovery, who have carried out forestry cleaning in the area and have recovered remains of the olive tree cultivation on the estate. Workers of the estate's SOIB Reactiva programme have also participated.
Another improvement has been the restoration of the Pedra en Sec route stone walls. The dry walls that are located from the entry fence to the property to its intersection with the Galatzó houses main lane, are being rebuilt. This restoration is necessary due to its great ethnological and constructive value, a reflection of a society and culture transmitted over generations. In addition, it has an enormous aesthetic value, is an identifying element of the Serra de Tramuntana, and is also useful for the safety of the estate's hikers and visitors. The investment for this action is approximately 20.000€, and it is expected to receive a subsidy from the Serra Tramuntana World Heritage Consortium, addressed to town halls in the Serra de Tramuntana for the recovery of ethnological and architectural elements with heritage value.
