Calvià and Palma will improve the taxi service thanks to a collaboration agreement

Calvià Town Hall approves in plenary session the draft of the future agreement between both municipalities

New step in improving the taxi service in Calvià and Palma. Both municipalities are working on a collaboration agreement between the councils to establish a special regime for the joint provision of the taxi service. On Wednesday, the agreement's proforma was approved in Calvià Town Hall's ordinary Plenary session of July. The parties commit to hold meetings with the respective taxi associations and representatives to evaluate the monitoring of the content and results of the agreement, which will not entail any expense in its implementation.

Seven points of action are contemplated:

-In the event that a taxi from Palma or Calvià provides a service to the other municipality and there is a taxi stand or point enabled as a taxi stand where at that moment there is no taxi from the municipality of the taxi stand, or there is more demand from travellers than taxis waiting, then the loading of the taxi from the other municipality will be allowed.

-No taxi stand is excluded from this authorisation.
-It will be a serious infringement for a taxi to load at a point not officially enabled as a taxi stand, in accordance with the provisions of article 115.9 of the Municipal Regulations of the public passenger transport service in Calvià vehicles and the Regulations of public passenger transport and auxiliary and complementary activities of the Palma City Council.
-The taxi stations will be limited exclusively to their own municipal area.
-Each taxi will apply the rates in force in the municipality to which its license corresponds.

-The agreement of Palma City Council's Plenary session on work shifts and conditions for the provision of the municipal taxi service  between 1st March and 31st  October 2024 (BOIB No. 36, of 14th March 2024) will be applied.
-This agreement will be submitted to the Ministry of Housing, Territory and Mobility for approval.

In this regard, Manuel Mas, deputy mayor responsible for Mobility and Transport, has stated that "we are working so that the agreement can be applied as soon as possible and has the authorisation of the Regional Ministry. With this, we will ensure that around 1.450 taxis can operate in the two municipalities under the terms of the agreement."
