Grants to the Calvią Senior Citizens Associations

Wednesday 14th July 2021

Subsidies' delivery to the Calvià Senior Citizens Associations

The Calvià Senior Citizens Associations' grants ceremony took place, on Wednesday 14th July, with a total of 14.660 €. The councillor for Social Development, Childhood and the Elderly, M. Carmen Rojano, was in charge of welcoming the representatives of the Associations that since the beginning of the pandemic have had to suspend the activities they carried out and that are scheduled to resume in September. The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, addressed them a few words of encouragement, gratitude and support, wishing the resumption of the activities and normality in the different clubs for the elderly in the municipality, noting that the Town Hall has wanted to be very close throughout this time of pandemic.

During confinement, a team of 35 workers from the Town Hall made calls to the elderly to listen to them and detect possible needs arising due to the confinement, reaching about 7.000 people, over 65 years of age. At the beginning of the state of alarm, a care and supportive plan for the elderly was launched, prioritising the most urgent cases of loneliness or social isolation that had already been detected by Social Services or those that could have signs. In addition, a campaign was carried out on social networks so that neighbours who knew of a case would bring it to the attention of the Town Hall. Within the framework of this plan, home care services (SAD) and meals at home, were also expanded, amongst others.
