CALVIÀ TOURISM FORUM MEETING

Today the Calvià Tourism Forum has met for the start of the season which, according to the mayor, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, comes with good prospects for the municipality.

Rodríguez Badal has taken stock by highlighting that, although the 2021 season has been better than the one in 2020, "we are not satisfied", that is why work continues on the creation of a product, as a destination brand, giving as an example the PGA golf tournament that took place at the Santa Ponça golf course, the tennis ATP, or own products such as the Peguera Challenge triathlon, as well as cultural events such as the Mallorca Live Festival or the Magaluf Expanded Literature Festival. In this sense, the general director of Tourism and Coastline, Xavier Pascuet, has pointed out the importance of the investment that the Town Hall is making, with a view to promotion, with the public relations and communication agencies in the source countries (United Kingdom, Germany, Nordic countries), and also in the Spanish market to recover national tourism.

The mayor has reviewed the aid that has been launched, due to the pandemic in a municipal key to help maintain the business fabric and, therefore, jobs, and also the aid of 855 million euros for the Balearic Islands from the Government of Spain, which for Calvià has meant more than 55 million euros for 473 companies and 270 self-employed workers in the municipality.

Likewise, he has reported on the investments that are being carried out, or that are being planned, such as the embellishment of the Portals cove coastline, the Puig de sa Morisca Museum and the subsequent adaptation of the archaeological park, the Galatzó estate refuge, the Calvià village cistern, or the remodelling of Contraalmirante Pou and Contraalmirante Ferragut streets that are part of the project for the comprehensive reform of the Magaluf coastline. Regarding this project, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal explained that the project has already been drafted, there is already financing (1.5 million from the Sustainable Tourism Tax, 5 million from municipal remnants and 4 million from the Minsitry of Tourism's European Fund call), and permits from the Ministry of Ecological Transition are pending. A project that has already been drafted is the second phase of Palmira (Peguera) coastal promenade improvement, and the possibility of joining the Palmira and Torà fronts, the second phase of Santa Ponça coastal promenade, the improvement of Jaime I in Santa Ponça and Blanc street in Magaluf, are being drafted.

Finally, the Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning, Commerce and Activities, Marc López, explained that for the season, the Town Hall's Activities Commission will pay special attention to the control and monitoring of what is known as the Excesses Law.

The Tourism Forum meeting was also attended, on behalf of the municipal government team, by the deputy mayor for Local Police, Nati Francés, and the deputy mayor Marga Plomer.
