The Health Service and Calvià Town Hall have agreed on the new location that will house the future Son Ferrer Basic Health Unit (BHU). It is a 2,583 square-metre plot of land located in the urban area of Son Ferrer —in the streets of Can Ferrer, Pit-roig and Colom— and which meets the needs of the new health infrastructure. It is a very well located space, with good access and the possibility of including parking spaces. Once the Health Service formally requests it, the Town Hall will start the procedure to cede the land. The Regional Minister of Health and Consumption, Patricia Gómez, and the Mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, have visited today the plot of land, accompanied by the Health Service's Management and Economic Services director, Manuel Palomino; the deputy mayor for Social Cohesion and Equality, Nati Francés, and the councillor for the Son Ferrer area, Alfonso Molina.

The Regional Minister of Health and Consumption, Patricia Gómez, highlighted both the good collaboration with the Town Hall and the fact that this new Basic Health Unit will represent a significant improvement over the current facilities, since it will allow the current space to be expanded and improve healthcare accessibility to all residents of this area.

The mayor of Calvià, Alfonso Rodríguez Badal, has pointed out that the construction of a new Basic Health Unit is very good news for Son Ferrer residents, since it will mean having a centre suited to a population of more than 6,000 inhabitants which the area has. The mayor also thanked the Regional Ministry of Health and Consumption for its willingness to carry out this action as soon as the Town Hall has been able to find a suitable municipal site. In this sense, he has commented that a similar project is already being worked on in the Peguera area.

The future Son Ferrer BHU will have a surface area of 2,264 m2, which means a notable improvement in terms of facilities and accessibility compared to the current centre. It is expected to have an area with 12 medical consultation rooms (3 medicine, 3 nursing, 1 paediatrics, 1 pediatric nursing, 1 social work, 1 psychology, 1 pharmacy, 1 multi-purpose), a care and special techniques area (with a care room and a minor surgery room), an extraction area, a women's care unit (with a midwife's consultation room and a room), a physiotherapy consultation room and a dental health unit (with four consultation rooms).

The current BHU is in 36, Ocell del Paradís St., depends on Na Burguesa Health Centre (Palmanova) and has 4,594 health cards attached. It has five consultation rooms and a care room that allows two assistance teams (doctor and nurse) to provide services. The increase in the population recorded in recent years makes it necessary to increase resources and expand spaces to provide optimal assistance.
