Half Marathon Magaluf record participation

Tuesday 29th March 2022

Hundreds of international runners are expected to arrive at this 37th edition, which is amongst the oldest urban races in Spain

CALVIÀ STARTS THE HALF MARATHON MAGALUF WITH RECORD FORECASTS OF PARTICIPANTS

-The organisation expects to welcome more than 1.200 participants, with 20% international athletes
-A specific award category has been created to encourage the participation of people with disabilities
-The Mallorca Live Festival Foundation collaborates in the organisation of the race

With four weeks to go until its celebration, nearly 700 athletes have already registered to participate in the Half Marathon Magaluf, one of the most established urban races in Spain. With these numbers, the organisation anticipates that this 37th edition, which will take place on 23rd April, will be marked by a record number of participants of over 1,200 athletes and a large foreign participation of around 20%.

The appointment will be determined by a relative return to normality with regards to the epidemiological situation and will have three categories: the 21-kilometre Half Marathon Magaluf, the 10-kilometre modality and the children's race. In addition, to encourage the participation of people with disabilities, this year a specific award category has been created.

The layouts of the three categories are mostly flat and will cover the coastal areas and avenues of the towns of Magaluf and Palmanova. The organisation will also offer a series of services to participants such as provisioning in the race and at the finish line, timing, physiotherapy, cloakroom, reaching-finishing-line medal, animation and various surprises so that the day is a success for athletes and attendees.

Mallorca Live Festival and Pasta Party

This edition will once again count on the collaboration of Mallorca Live Festival Foundation, which will provide each participant with a cloth bag made with sustainable materials, a technical T-shirt and a bib number carrier, it will enliven the races with music and apply discounts on registration to those who already have tickets for the Mallorca Live Festival.

As a parallel activity to the Half Marathon Magaluf, in this edition the traditional Pasta Party will be held again but with certain modifications due to the Covid-19. Unlike pre-pandemic times, in which all marathon participants were invited to a large community meal, this year 1,200 discount vouchers will be distributed to be redeemed at restaurants that have joined this initiative, in order to maintain the sense of sports community of the Pasta Party and boost the local economy.

Calvià and the great sporting events

The veteran Magaluf marathon has been framed within the specific plan of Calvià Town Hall to strengthen the change in the tourism model, encourage sustainable and quality tourism through sport and promote healthy lifestyles amongst the population. The municipality has increased the number of facilities in recent years to practice almost any type of sport on the track, in nature and on the coast, for both amateurs and professionals.

In addition to the Half Marathon Magaluf, Calvià is betting on the organisation of major sporting events throughout the year, including the recently held Galatzó Trail, the Challenge Peguera Mallorca triathlon, the ATP Mallorca Championships, the water sports competitions during the Fiestas del Rei En Jaume or the European Golf Tour.

The Half Marathon Magaluf is a community project in which Fundación Calvià 2004 and Calvià Town Hall organise the event with the sponsorship of Fundació Mallorca Turisme. In addition, it has a body of more than 100 volunteers and the participation of various sports clubs in the municipality.
