The Commission for the Promotion of Sustainable Tourism (CITS) has approved 27 new projects to be financed with 138.3 million euros that come from the Sustainable Tourism Tax collection. Of the 27 approved files, more than half (14) will have a direct or indirect impact on all the municipalities of the Islands.

One of the approved projects is the one presented by Calvià Town Hall, through the Department of the Environment and Territory of the Government of the Balearic Islands, to expand Calvià's reclaimed water network, which is produced at the Water Regeneration Station (ERA) of Santa Ponça, which will involve an investment of 3.530.010€, to be carried out by the Town Hall.

Within the circular economy and environmental sustainability framework, Calvià Town Hall is developing a package of actions to optimise the water resources of the municipality of Calvià, especially highlighting the promotion of the reuse of regenerated water, whose emblematic facility is the new Santa Ponça Water Regeneration Station (ERA Santa Ponça).

This new infrastructure, promoted by Calvià Town Hall through Calvià 2000, which has been financed through the Balearic Water Treatment Levy, has involved an investment of more than 5.3 million euros, and will considerably increase the availability of reclaimed water in the municipality, going from the current 12% to the target of 85% at the time of maximum production, approaching the horizon of 100% reuse of the treated water in the municipality. With the aim of reaching the 0 DISCHARGES.

The start-up of the new ERA in Santa Ponça is a key part of the Calvià water regeneration and reuse plan, which includes other measures such as the provision of reclaimed water distribution networks, which receives investment from the ITS funds, and regulation deposits or pools, provision of irrigation networks for green areas and gardens, development of regulations based on sustainable water management and promotion and awareness actions amongst the different groups of interest, amongst other initiatives.
